Overview
We are seeking a Workday US Payroll Lead to drive the Payroll workstream within a Workday implementation. This is a senior, hands-on role responsible for leading payroll design, configuration, and overall delivery.
This opportunity is structured as a contract-to-hire, making it a strong fit for experienced payroll consultants who want to stay hands-on in Workday while moving into a role that offers greater stability, continuity, and a more balanced pace. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Workday US Payroll workstream within an active implementation
- Own payroll design and configuration across earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and payroll accounting
- Provide guidance on U.S. payroll compliance including tax, wage attachments, Common Pay Master, and regulatory considerations
- Support complex requirements including union / CBA environments and retirement plans (e.g., 401k)
- Facilitate client working sessions to gather, validate, and refine requirements
- Translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable Workday configurations
- Drive testing efforts including unit, parallel, and UAT; support defect resolution and issue triage
- Provide payroll readiness guidance and support go-live preparation
- Communicate progress, risks, and key decisions to stakeholders and project leadership
- Partner with cross-functional teams including HCM, Benefits, Integrations, and Finance
- Active Workday US Payroll Certification required
- Proven experience leading or supporting Workday US Payroll implementations
- Deep understanding of U.S. payroll regulations including tax, garnishments, and Common Pay Master
- Hands-on experience with payroll accounting, reconciliation, and period close
- Experience supporting retirement plans such as 401k
- Exposure to union / collective bargaining environments strongly preferred
- Ability to operate independently as a workstream lead
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage business and technical stakeholders
- Experience with Workday Launch, Launch Express, or similar methodologies preferred
