Special Education Aide/BASS

• Help manage the behavior of assigned students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and following individual student behavior intervention plans as needed.

• Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.

• Work with assigned students or small groups to reinforce behavioral skills assigned by teacher.

• Assist assigned students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

• Collect necessary paperwork/data per teacher direction.

• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of assigned students.

• Participate in professional development programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

• Assist in other Special Education or General Education classroom settings.

• Maintain confidentiality.

• Maintain regular attendance.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate (must obtain within 30 days of employment)
• Current certification in de-escalation and restraint techniques or completion of certification within 45 school days of employment

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively

EQUIPMENT USED: Wheelchair lift, ramps, personal computer, copier, typewriter, and audiovisual equipment.

• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
• Posture: Frequent standing, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and kneeling
• Motion: Frequent walking
• Lifting: Regular heavy lifting of students
