Responsibilities
The Freight Support Specialist (FSS) is a role that combines activities relating to Delivery Support and Freight Audit responsibilities. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy, escalating only complex or exceptional issues for management review.
The Freight Support Specialist (FSS) supports both internal Sales teams and external customers by managing a wide range of freight-related inquiries and cases. The role requires strong knowledge of transportation processes, auditing practices, and regulatory considerations. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, requiring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Serve as a primary point of contact for freight-related inquiries
Manage a broad range of customer service issues, from routine requests to complex freight cases
Coordinate shipment re-routes and arranges carrier pickups, including heavyweight shipments
Provide freight quotes, routing guidance, and shipping solutions as needed
Negotiate with vendors and carriers to resolve service or cost-related issues
File freight claims with all carriers for damage, lost shipments and missed deliveries
Work directly with sales and customer service for proof of deliveries, tracking numbers, address corrections and short shipments
Daily communication with our TIDC for any freight and carrier-related issues or questions
Communication as needed with Connection Finance team around freight, invoicing, claims or accessorial charges
Administration of cargo insurance processes, including coordination, claims handling, and resolution as needed
Educate and support Sales teams and vendors by providing guidance on freight fundamentals, policies, and best practices
Support cross-functional teams with freight-related projects and initiatives
Establish relationships with vendor and distribution contacts
Provide procedural guidance and training to necessary team members across the organization
Participate in departmental meetings, team discussions, and ongoing training programs
Crosstrain across FTL, LTL, and Parcel functions to support broader logistics operations

Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word)
Intermediate Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables)
Ability to navigate multiple systems and web-based applications
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., JD Edwards)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to audit, analyze, and resolve freight billing issues
Understanding of transportation concepts (LTL, FTL, Parcel) and geography
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong customer service orientation
Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization
Strong listening skills with the ability to assess and anticipate needs
High level of organization and documentational skills
