Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the wound care team, ensuring adherence to best practices and clinical standards.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive wound management protocols aligned with current evidence-based guidelines.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary efforts involving physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient recovery.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments including vital signs, anatomy knowledge, and physiological evaluations to inform individualized treatment plans.
- Oversee documentation of medical records, medical documentation, and compliance with HIPAA regulations to ensure privacy and accuracy.
- Provide education and training on wound care techniques such as sterile processing, aseptic technique, catheter care, IV insertion, and infection control.
- Utilize EMR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate record keeping, tracking patient progress, and managing utilization review processes.
- Manage inventory of wound supplies, dressings, catheters, and DME (durable medical equipment) ensuring proper stock levels.
- Monitor quality metrics related to wound healing outcomes and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Support staff development through supervising experience programs and fostering a culture of learning within the team.
Qualifications
- Current RN license with active registration; additional certifications in wound care preferred (e.g., WCC or CWCN).
- Extensive critical care experience including ICU or Level I Trauma Center settings; hospital medicine or emergency medicine background highly desirable.
- Proven management skills with prior nurse management or supervisory experience in complex healthcare environments.
- Strong knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for documentation and case management purposes.
- Familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards for accurate medical documentation and billing processes.
- Experience working with diverse populations including geriatrics, patients with dementia or behavioral health needs, individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities.
- Expertise in advanced wound management techniques including infection control practices, tube feeding management, venipuncture, catheterization, sterile processing procedures, and pain management strategies.
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with physiology knowledge to evaluate wound progression effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while demonstrating leadership in clinical decision-making.
