Overview
The SNF Culinary Operations Director leads day-to-day food service operations. You’ll champion culinary excellence, ensure compliance with all regulations, oversee financial performance, and foster a resident-focused dining culture similar to top-tier senior living operators.
Responsibilities
Operational Management & Resident Experience
- Oversee kitchens with hands-on support to maintain quality, safety, and consistency.
- Engage with residents and staff during service to assess satisfaction, build rapport, and respond to feedback—mirroring best practices across senior living
Menu Planning & Nutrition
- Develop, cost, and implement cycle menus including therapeutic and resident-focused options.
- Adapt menus based on dietary guidelines, seasonal availability, resident preferences, and survey insights
Staff Leadership & Training
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and mentor culinary and front-of-house staff; lead ongoing in-service training and performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with grooming, uniform, and safe work practices.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain rigorous sanitation and food safety standards (including Serv Safe/HACCP); conduct regular audits and manage health department inspections
- Enforce infection control, universal precautions, safety policies.
Financial Oversight
- Manage departmental budget, including food, labor, and supplies. Perform monthly financial reviews and implement cost-control measures.
- Maintain accurate records: inventory, food production, personnel, expenses, meal counts.
Requirements
- 5 years of culinary leadership, ideally in a skilled nursing facility.
- Proven budget management and cost-control experience.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance in healthcare foodservice (e.g., ODH, CMS, HACCP)
- Experience with culturally sensitive meal preparation a plus.
- Serv Safe Food Protection Manager Certification (or equivalent); CDM preferred
- Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and culinary software tools.
