Job Description

We are seeking a dependable, knowledgeable, and highly experienced Ranch Hand / Farm Caretaker with a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience to assist with the care, maintenance, and daily operations of a privately owned 70-acre recreational farm.

The property features ponds, wooded areas, pastures, and a variety of farm animals, including goats, pigs, chickens, guineas, and donkeys.

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in livestock care, animal husbandry, general farming, equipment operation, and rural property maintenance.

This position also offers the opportunity to share practical agricultural knowledge with homeschooled children through hands-on instruction in animal care, farming, and livestock husbandry.

We are seeking someone who takes pride in their work, demonstrates sound judgment, and can independently manage daily farm responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities

Animal Care & Husbandry

• Feed, water, and provide daily care for farm animals.
• Monitor livestock health, behavior, and general well-being.
• Maintain animal shelters, pens, fencing, and feeding areas.
• Assist with livestock handling, animal husbandry, and routine animal care.
• Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment for all animals.

Farm & Property Maintenance

• Maintain the grounds and overall appearance of the 70-acre property.
• Perform mowing, weed eating, brush clearing, and general landscaping.
• Maintain trees, wooded areas, trails, and pond surroundings.
• Perform routine tree trimming, pruning, planting, and general upkeep.
• Inspect and repair fencing, gates, and farm structures.
• Operate tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, and other farm equipment.
• Perform general repairs and preventative maintenance.

Farming & Gardening

• Assist with planting, cultivating, and harvesting seasonal crops and gardens.
• Maintain garden areas, irrigation systems, and small agricultural plots.
• Assist with general farming activities and property improvement projects.
• Apply practical knowledge of farming, soil management, and crop care.

Agricultural Education

• Help teach homeschooled children about farming, livestock, and animal husbandry.
• Provide hands-on demonstrations of animal care, gardening, planting, and harvesting.
• Encourage safe, supervised participation in age-appropriate farm activities.
• Share practical agricultural knowledge and promote responsible animal care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in farming, ranch operations, livestock care, animal husbandry, or rural property management.
• Extensive practical knowledge of livestock care and animal husbandry.
• Experience operating tractors, mowers, and farm equipment.
• Working knowledge of farming, gardening, and tree maintenance.
• General mechanical, fencing, and repair skills preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
• Dependable, trustworthy, hardworking, and self-motivated.
• Comfortable working with and teaching children.
• Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license preferred.
• Ability to successfully complete a job-related background check, consistent with applicable law.

Schedule & Compensation
