A growing outpatient opioid treatment program is seeking a compassionate and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The NP will serve as a primary and specialty care provider in a fast-paced outpatient methadone clinic under the supervision of a licensed physician.
This role focuses on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with opioid use disorder through medication-assisted treatment (MOUD), preventive healthcare, chronic disease management, and recovery-oriented services. The ideal candidate is clinically strong, highly organized, and passionate about addiction medicine and community health.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Medical Services
- Provide medical services under physician supervision to promote and maintain patient health
- Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions, including substance use disorders
- Conduct comprehensive medical histories and physical examinations
- Initiate, manage, and monitor MOUD treatment in collaboration with the Medical Director
- Order, perform, supervise, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient assessment and clinical findings
- Provide preventive healthcare services including screenings, immunizations, and health maintenance
- Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, in accordance with federal and state regulations
- Educate patients on medication use, side effects, adherence, and treatment expectations
- Monitor treatment response and adjust medications as clinically appropriate
Care Coordination & Patient Support
- Provide triage and urgent medical support as needed
- Coordinate referrals to primary care, specialty care, behavioral health, and social services
- Deliver individualized patient and family education
- Foster a respectful, trauma-informed, culturally competent care environment
- Promote patient safety and harm-reduction practices
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate, timely, confidential medical records in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and oversight agency requirements, including SAMHSA, DEA, NYS OASAS, and DOH regulations
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, inspections, and accreditation activities
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and clinical protocols
Collaboration
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, counselors, case managers, and administrative staff
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and case conferences
- Assist with the development and review of clinical policies and procedures
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted New York State Nurse Practitioner license
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI)
- Active and unrestricted DEA registration
- NYS Infection Control Certification
- Current BLS certification
- Mandated Reporter Certification
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in ambulatory or outpatient care
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to opioid treatment programs and addiction medicine
- Understanding of disease prevention and population health principles
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, or substance use treatment
