We are seeking an experienced, driven Landscape Operations Manager to lead a high-performing team delivering commercial landscape, snow removal, and government contract services across the DC Metro region. This is a senior leadership role for a proven professional ready to own a large book of business and drive operational excellence across every facet of the operation.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage a diverse team of 30 employees across field and office functions, including QC, Safety, Accounts Payable, and Operations staff
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for assigned crews and subcontractors
- Estimate, plan, and execute recurring work and enhancement projects from cradle to grave
- Lead the full cycle of landscape enhancement projects — from proposal and negotiation through execution
- Negotiate landscaping and snow removal contracts on behalf of the company with subcontractors
- Develop and execute snow removal plans for multiple sites
- Manage government contracts, ensuring full compliance with administrative requirements and environmental regulations
- Organize, track, and execute non-recurring work orders with accuracy and accountability
- Calculate and process progress payment invoices in a timely and accurate manner
- Train in-house and contract personnel in proper landscape and snow removal skills
- Travel to regional sites to ensure contract terms are met
- Check quality of work and report deficiencies to the QC Manager
- Ensure team compliance with all corporate, site, and safety policies and procedures
- Maintain working knowledge of equipment and coordinate basic maintenance needs
What You Bring
Experience & Education
- 10 years of landscape management experience at the Account Manager level or higher
- 5 years of commercial snow removal experience
- Proven track record managing a landscape book of business exceeding $3M
- High school diploma required; undergraduate degree a plus
- Experience managing office staff across QC, Safety and Operations functions
- Experience with government contract structure and environmental compliance a plus
- Background leading proposals, negotiations, and execution of landscape enhancement projects
Technical Knowledge
- Demonstrated knowledge in landscape planting — annuals, perennials, and woody ornamentals
- Working knowledge of turf care and basic horticultural practices for transition zone climates
- Experience operating skid loaders, plow trucks, containment plows, and snow removal equipment
- Experience developing innovative operation techniques utilizing the latest in grounds maintenance equipment
- Experience with trailering heavy equipment
- Working knowledge of basic equipment maintenance
- Ability to lift in excess of 80 lbs
Professional Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Must speak, read, and write English fluently
- Must be able to give direction and instruction using basic industry Spanish
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels, vendors, and customers
- Ability to multi-task and work independently with strong decision-making skills
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
- High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and attention to detail
- Self-starter with flexibility to re-prioritize assignments as business needs change
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to pass a background screening and gain access to federal installations
Preferred / A Plus
- Experience working with organized labor
- Background in hardscape installation or management
- Certified fertilizer/pesticide applicator
- SIMA ASM/CSP certification
