Director of Human Resources
Reports To: Executive Leadership / Finance Leadership
Overview
The Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all human capital functions across the organization. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering HR policies, programs, and initiatives that support organizational objectives, promote a strong culture, and ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can balance strategic planning with day-to-day execution in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and management on all human resources matters.
- Develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and procedures that align with organizational goals and values.
- Lead employee engagement, satisfaction, and culture initiatives, including survey design, execution, and analysis.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on employee relations matters, performance management, and workplace issues.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Oversee incident reporting and resolution, including internal incidents, workers’ compensation claims, and unemployment claims.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Management
- Lead recruiting efforts across all locations, including workforce planning, job postings, and hiring processes.
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a consistent and compliant employee experience.
- Oversee termination processes in coordination with leadership and legal requirements.
Compensation, Benefits & Payroll Oversight
- Oversee payroll and benefits administration, including semi-monthly payroll processing, new hires, terminations, and changes.
- Manage health and welfare benefit plans, including enrollments, changes, terminations, and vendor coordination.
- Ensure accurate processing of payroll and benefits documentation and proper deductions.
- Review and monitor 401(k) compliance and related reporting.
Safety & Risk Management
- Lead workplace safety initiatives, including safety meeting requirements, topic development, and compliance tracking.
- Partner with leadership to promote a safe and compliant work environment.
HR Systems & Reporting
- Maintain and oversee HR compliance systems, ensuring policies and procedures remain current and that annual employee acknowledgments are completed.
- Develop and manage HR reporting to support leadership decision-making.
- Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned to support organizational priorities.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; equivalent experience considered.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive human resources experience preferred, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
- Experience supporting multi-location or operationally complex organizations strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of human resource management principles and employment law.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies with sound judgment.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with standard office software and HR systems.
- Ability to work independently, lead cross-functional initiatives, and operate effectively under pressure.
- Adaptable leader comfortable in a changing, growth-oriented environment.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use hands for typing and administrative tasks. Occasional stair climbing and extended periods of sitting or standing may be required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
