Location: Hybrid — Laurel, MD (2–3 days on site)
Work Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Compensation: 180,000-220,000 Bonus

About the Role

A multi-state organization is seeking a Director to lead its Accounting Operations function. This leader will own the accounting aspects of AR, AP and provide operational support for payroll accounting across all entities.

Responsibilties

• Lead the centralized Accounting Operations team
• Oversee AP/AR accounting performance: timely entries, reconciliations, and US GAAP compliance.
• Map end-to-end workflows, identify risks, and drive continuous improvement and standardization.
• Safeguard subledger integrity (payments, collections, vendor master, payroll journals) and maintain robust transaction-level controls.
• Analyze and improve key metrics (e.g., DSO, DPO, invoice exceptions, payment cycles) to drive sustained performance.
• Coordinate with senior finance leaders on cash timing, intercompany activity, and close requirements.
• Support month- and year-end close (accruals, reconciliations, audit requests).
• Contribute to strategic finance initiatives focused on scalability and standardization.

Experience/Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
• 10 years in accounting operations and payroll accounting support.
• Proven success in multi-entity environments (M&A experience preferred).
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting best practices.
• Track record of improving operations
• Strong analytical, communication, and people-leadership skills; service-oriented and accountable.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $180,000.00 - $220,000.00 per year
