Our client is a privately held, high-growth consumer company seeking an experienced legal executive to serve as Deputy General Counsel. Position Overview
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Deputy General Counsel will help lead the day-to-day legal function, serving as a trusted advisor across multiple business units. This role offers broad exposure to commercial transactions, litigation oversight, employment matters, corporate governance, intellectual property, compliance, and operational strategy. The successful candidate will have the judgment, executive presence, and leadership skills to operate with a high degree of autonomy while supporting the company's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner closely with executive leadership to provide practical legal guidance on strategic business decisions and day-to-day operations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of sophisticated commercial agreements, including vendor, technology, licensing, professional services, and strategic partnership contracts.
- Advise internal stakeholders on legal matters impacting operations, marketing, finance, human resources, technology, procurement, and corporate initiatives.
- Oversee litigation, disputes, regulatory matters, and outside counsel while developing practical strategies to minimize organizational risk.
- Support corporate governance, entity management, internal policies, compliance initiatives, and executive-level decision-making.
- Provide guidance on intellectual property strategy, contractual protections, licensing matters, and brand-related legal issues.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen legal processes, improve operational efficiency, and build scalable infrastructure that supports future growth.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support new business initiatives, organizational priorities, and special projects.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with an active California Bar license.
- Approximately 10 or more years of legal experience, including both major law firm training and significant in-house leadership experience.
- Experience advising consumer-facing, retail, technology, manufacturing, or other fast-growing commercial organizations.
- Strong background in commercial transactions, litigation management, employment law, intellectual property, and corporate risk management.
- Demonstrated success partnering with executive leadership on complex business matters and providing practical, solutions-oriented legal advice.
- Outstanding communication skills, executive presence, sound judgment, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
