Onsite: Monday - Friday
Employment Type: Exempt, Full-time
Salary Range: Up to $150K
Job Summary:
Join us as a Controller, where you’ll be responsible for ensuring the accounting and finance department perform their functions efficiently and the organization has reliable financial reports. The Controller will enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results and will ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting and Finance Team Management
• Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
• Oversee the timely and accurate preparation accounts receivable progress billings
based upon specific contract terms.
• Review accounts receivable, aging reports and assist with direct reports for collections.
• Supervise the payment process to vendors and subcontractors and confirm lien waivers are properly collected.
• Monitor daily cash balances to ensure requirements are met.
• Review and monitor the preparation of the weekly payroll for union employees, including the timely submission of monthly union reports.
• Mentoring and training direct reports to grow in their roles & responsibilities as the company continues to grow.
• Perform special assignments as directed by the leadership team.
Financial Reporting
• Preparation and review of timely and complete monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Review financial statements with leadership.
• Create budgets with leadership and manage budgets to ensure fiscal health and
• responsibility.
• Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
• Preparation of construction contract schedules.
• Oversee the monthly job cost report process with leadership and project managers
for use in creating and updating contract schedules and updated work in progress
reports for internal and external use.
• Provide for a system of management cost reports.
• Provide financial analyses as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
Strategic Planning
• Participate in the on-going strategic planning with the leadership team. Perform
due diligence and create projections with different scenarios on growth opportunities as needed.
• Prepare the annual financial budget and update the forecasts on a quarterly basis.
• Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, specifically tailored to construction projects to ensure profitability and cost efficiency.
• Implement and manage financial control systems designed to track project expenses, labor costs, and material procurement to prevent overruns and ensure adherence to financial projections.
• Coordinate with project managers and other construction staff to ensure financial practices align with project timelines and construction phases, optimizing resource allocation and expenditure.
• Prepare and present detailed financial reports to senior management, stakeholders, and clients, highlighting project financial status, progress, and any areas of concern requiring attention or adjustment.
• Manage payroll for construction workers and subcontractors, ensuring accurate and timely compensation in compliance with contractual agreements and labor laws.
• Negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors, focusing on terms that protect the company’s financial interests while ensuring the timely delivery of materials and services.
• Administer tax planning and compliance activities specific to construction projects, including understanding and applying tax incentives, minimizing liabilities and enhance financial outcomes.
• Conduct risk management assessments related to financial operations and project execution, developing strategies to mitigate financial exposure and ensure project continuity amidst unforeseen financial challenges.
• Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
Compliance
• Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
• Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
• Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field REQUIRED
• CPA is a plus
• 6 years in a senior financial role, within the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including reporting and job costing.
• Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms commonly used in the construction industry. Viewpoint Vista, QuickBooks Desktop or Online preferred.
• Experience with a company of similar size (approx. $30M in annual revenue)

Salary : $30 - $150,000
