What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate position at Confidential?
About Us
Based in NYC, we’re a hands-on holding company investing in small and mid-sized, founder-led businesses. Industry-agnostic by design, our current footprint spans accounting, IT managed services, animal care, mechanical services, and more. With a fast-paced buy-and-build platform and $2B in enterprise value created to date, we pair scale with steadfast values—entrepreneurship, partnership, and integrity. Founders stay in control of day-to-day operations; we provide the capital, operating playbooks, and support to accelerate growth and profitability. We’re actively launching new platforms across multiple verticals and building enduring companies with exceptional local operators.
The Role: Investment Associate
You’ll be a force multiplier across the deal and operating lifecycle—sourcing insights, pressure-testing theses, and helping our portfolio teams execute. This is a high-visibility role working shoulder-to-shoulder with Partners, Operators, and functional leaders to turn diligence into action and action into results.
What You’ll Deliver
- Investment Diligence: End-to-end work on pipeline deals—quality of earnings support, cohort and unit economics, customer and market calls, and risk/mitigation maps.
- Conviction Materials: Clear, decision-ready memos, models, and IC presentations that distill signal from noise.
- Value-Creation Plans: First-100-day priorities, KPI trees, and operating dashboards aligned to growth and margin targets.
- Operating Analytics: Portfolio KPI standards, automated reporting, and insight packs that drive weekly action.
- Integration Support: Workstreams for new acquisitions—data, systems, org, and commercial motion—measured against defined milestones.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze financials (LBO/return cases, sensitivity, unit economics) and evaluate commercial, operational, and regulatory risk.
- Map markets and competitors; size TAM/SAM/SOM; benchmark pricing, channels, and customer concentration.
- Build KPI hierarchies and reporting cadences; turn raw data into operator-friendly dashboards and playbooks.
- Partner with portfolio CEOs/functional leads on pricing tests, sales funnel diagnostics, and cost take-out/gross margin lift.
- Prepare crisp readouts for senior leadership and Investment Committee.
- Track sector trends; shape theses for new platforms and tuck-ins.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Ops, Sales, Strategy, Finance, HR) to keep initiatives unblocked and on schedule.
What You Bring
- 2–5 years in management consulting, private equity, investment banking, or corporate development
- Ability to translate complex data into narrative and action for non-finance operators.
- Strong communication, prioritization, and bias-to-action in fast, ambiguous environments.
- Proficiency in Excel/PowerPoint; exposure to SQL/Sheets/BI tools (Power BI/Tableau/Looker) a plus.
- A builder’s mindset aligned to our values of entrepreneurship, partnership, and integrity.
