Position Summary
The Junior Accountant supports the accounting department by performing a variety of routine financial and administrative tasks. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with accounts payable and receivable functions, and supporting month-end processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to develop foundational accounting skills in a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable invoices, including coding, verifying approvals, and entering transactions into the accounting system
- Assist with accounts receivable functions such as applying payments and preparing customer statements
- Perform data entry of financial transactions and maintain accurate records
- Reconcile vendor statements and assist with resolving discrepancies
- Support bank and credit card reconciliations
- Assist with month-end closing tasks as assigned
- Maintain organized digital and physical accounting files
- Communicate with internal departments and external vendors regarding invoice and payment inquiries
- Help track expenses and ensure proper documentation is maintained
- Assist with preparation of reports for management as needed
- Support special accounting projects and administrative tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred (or currently pursuing)
- Basic understanding of accounting principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to learn and grow within the accounting field
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Acumatica or similar ERP systems
- Internship or prior office experience in an accounting or finance environment
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based role
