What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at Confidential Job Post?
Essential Functions:
• Maintain and update cost of products, including materials, labor, and overhead
allocations.
• Monitor and analyze cost variances; investigate discrepancies and recommend
solutions.
• Prepare inventory valuations and reconcile with the general ledger.
• Work with Operations to coordinate physical inventory and cycle counting
process. Reconcile results to general ledger.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to cost
accounting.
• Collaborate with production and supply chain teams to ensure accurate cost tracking,
reporting, and to identify potential efficiency opportunities and cost savings.
• Prepare cost estimates for new and existing products, including BOM (Bill of Materials)
analysis.
• Provide cost analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
• Deliver ad hoc reporting and insights for leadership.
• Guides other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy, applying
observations and recommendations to operational issues.
• Maintains financial security and confidentiality of company information.
• Avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforcing
accounting regulations; recommending new procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Maintain a mindset of continuous improvement, in terms of efficiency of support
processes, operational efficiencies, and the application of tools for monitoring,
management and optimization.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA or CMA a plus.
• At least 3-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or product-based
environment.
• Excellent analytical and computer skills; highly proficient in Excel-based modeling.
• Experience with ERP systems (Sage X3 preferred).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills within and external to company.
• Detail-driven with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
• Office environment. Daily use of wrists, hands, fingers, arms to use computer and
phone. Ability to hear and speak clearly for gathering and giving simple to complex
information to a group.
• Ability to travel approximately 10% per year.
