Bookkeeper — Commercial Construction
Full-Time, In-House | Accounting / Finance | Reports to Controller / Director of Finance

We are seeking a detail-oriented, construction-savvy Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial operations of our growing business.
Position Summary
The Bookkeeper will maintain accurate financial records for the company, supporting accounts payable and receivable, cash management, job costing, month-end close, insurance compliance, and payroll coordination. This role is critical to keeping project financials organized and ensuring the company maintains healthy cash flow across multiple active jobs.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
• Log subcontractor, supplier, and vendor invoices into the accounting system, coded properly by cost type
• Distribute invoices for approval
• Run open AP reports for review
• Process checks
• Prepare lien waivers
Accounts Receivable
• Enter applications for payment into the accounting system
• Apply payments from customers
• Generate customer statements
Cash Management
• Update daily cash reports
• Reconcile bank statements
• Enter ACH payments
Month-End Closing
• Record month-end adjusting journal entries
• Reconcile and report all balance sheet accounts
• Prepare monthly financial reports
• Prepare WIP (Work in Progress) schedule
Insurance
• Enter subcontractor insurance renewals into the accounting system
• Support workers' compensation audits
• Support general liability audits
Job Costing
• Enter estimates into the accounting system
Other
• Interface with CPA as needed
• Complete monthly sales tax filings
HR
• Support benefits administration
• Coordinate background checks
• Process weekly 401(k) funding
Payroll Support
• Attend to outsourced payroll weekly to ensure accuracy and timeliness
Qualifications
Required
• 3 years of bookkeeping experience, with at least 1–2 years in construction or a related project-based industry
• Strong understanding of job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting concepts
• Proficiency with construction accounting software, Deltek ComputerEase
• Working knowledge of AIA billing formats (G702/G703), lien waivers, and retention practices
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple active projects and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Experience supporting external CPA firms during tax season or audits

Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: $55,000-$75,000
• Benefits: Health insurance, 401(k), PTO.
