VP of Food Safety and Quality Assurance
Position Summary
The Vice President of Food Safety and Quality Assurance (VP FSQA) provides enterprise-level leadership for all food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance activities. This role develops and executes strategies that ensure products meet legal, customer, and company standards while supporting operational performance and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the company-wide food safety and quality assurance strategy, policies, and objectives.
- Oversee compliance with applicable food safety laws, regulations, audit standards, and customer requirements.
- Direct FSQA teams, site leaders, and cross-functional partners to maintain consistent standards across facilities, co-manufacturers, warehouses, and distribution channels.
- Monitor quality systems, sanitation programs, supplier compliance, corrective actions, and product hold/release decisions.
- Serve as the executive authority for food safety incidents, customer complaints, recalls, investigations, and regulatory communications.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, risk reduction, training, and culture-building efforts related to food safety and quality.
- Establish performance metrics, reporting routines, and governance processes to track FSQA effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, chemistry, quality management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Extensive leadership experience in food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance within the food industry.
- Strong knowledge of FDA/USDA requirements, HACCP, preventive controls, GFSI schemes, sanitation, supplier approval, and audit management.
- Proven ability to lead teams, influence executive stakeholders, and manage complex multi-site operations.
- Strong communication, analytical, and crisis-management skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in manufacturing, co-manufacturing, or multi-facility food operations.
- Background in product quality systems, customer complaints, recall coordination, and regulatory inspections.
