Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, provides compassionate home care, facility based, and inpatient hospice services to our patients and their families. Our home care coverage area spreads throughout several counties in Western Pennsylvania with inpatient locations in Wexford, Cabot, and Beaver. The Good Samaritan Hospice team works together to provide relief through pain control and symptom management, while offering emotional, social and spiritual support for the patient and family. The Hospice Staff Educator uses his/her knowledge of nursing and hospice to educate current and new staff members on all aspects of home health and hospice. The Staff Educator will coordinate orientation for all new staff members focusing on proper patient care, procedures and documentation and ensure staff is following regulations. They will ensure that each clinician is receiving the individualized education needed to be a successful hospice clinician.
The position is full time, working Monday through Friday out of the Middlesex Office. It also includes a weekend supervisor on-call rotation (approximately every 6 weeks) to assist with any questions or concerns from the patients, families, or our clinicians
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Nurse (RN or LPN) license in the state of Pennsylvania
- Bachelors degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
- Two (2) years nursing experience and two (2) years hospice experience preferred
- Solid computer skills, including Word, Excel and electronic medical record (EMR) programs
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Outstanding communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Reliable independent means of transportation with a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and at least the minimum state required vehicle insurance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs, implements and updates orientation program for clinical staff
- Facilitates orientation of all hospice team members in collaboration with Human Resources; develops orientation checklists and ensures educational materials are current
- Facilitates ongoing support of new employees as needed to contribute to staff success and retention
- Works closely with the executive and management team to identify ongoing clinical educational needs
- Conducts clinical software training for staff, including computer documentation training, scheduling, telephony, cell phone training, software updates; maintains records of all clinical education for reporting purposes
- Collaborates with the Concordia Community Support Services (CCSS) informatics team to ensure efficient use and security of technology (electronic medical records, pharmacy vendors, computer equipment, etc.)
- Collaborates with Concordia Visiting Nurses (CVN) to organize and participate in annual clinical competency fairs
- Works closely with the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) to ensure appropriate clinical documentation; educates clinical staff when appropriate
- Participates in required on-call responsibilities
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and other related activities when required
