Job Description
The Sr. M365 Collaboration Engineer is a deep technical individual contributor on the Workforce Productivity Team, responsible for the engineering, administration, advanced support, and continuous improvement of the company's Microsoft 365 collaboration ecosystem. This role focuses on Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business as core platforms, while also driving migrations, resolving complex integration issues, researching emerging solutions, and integrating AI-powered tools into the collaboration environment.
This role serves as a subject matter expert and escalation resource for the Service Delivery organization, which provides Level 1 through Level 3 support. The Sr. M365 Collaboration Engineer owns platform engineering standards, complex issue resolution, migration execution, solution research, and the adoption of AI capabilities that enhance employee productivity and collaboration.
Responsibilities
Platform Engineering and Administration
- Design, engineer, and configure Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business environments.
- Manage Teams policies, governance settings, and lifecycle management to ensure consistent, and secure services.
- Administer SharePoint Online sites, hub architecture, content types, permissions models, and governance frameworks.
- Manage OneDrive configuration, sync client policies, known folder move (KFM) deployments, and storage governance.
- Maintain platform health, capacity, and performance through proactive monitoring and operational discipline.
Complex Issue Resolution and Escalation Support
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive issues.
- Diagnose and resolve complex integration issues between M365 services and connected systems
- Maintain detailed troubleshooting runbooks, known issue documentation, and knowledge base articles to improve resolution speed across the support organization.
Migrations
- Plan, architect, and execute migrations of files, collaboration content, and team workspaces from legacy systems (e.g., on-premises SharePoint, file shares, third-party platforms) to Microsoft 365 standards.
- Assess source environments, map content structures, validate data fidelity, and manage cutover activities.
Integrations
- Design and support integration between Microsoft 365 services and enterprise business applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues arising from API connections, Power Automate workflows, Teams app integrations, and SharePoint-connected services.
- Collaborate with Cybersecurity, Infrastructure and Operations teams, and application teams to ensure integrations meet security, compliance, and architectural standards.
- Document integration patterns, data flows, and support models to enable long-term maintainability.
AI Tools and Innovation
- Research, evaluate, and pilot AI-powered features and tools within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
- Drive the integration of new AI tools into the collaboration environment, partnering with the Workforce Productivity team to align deployments with enterprise readiness and security requirements.
- Monitor the Microsoft 365 roadmap and emerging third-party AI solutions to identify opportunities to improve collaboration, automation, and employee productivity.
- Build internal expertise and enablement materials to help employees and support staff effectively use AI tools within the M365 environment.
Adoption and Enablement Support
- Partner with training and change management efforts to increase adoption of Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and AI collaboration tools across the enterprise.
- Contribute technical content to end-user training materials, knowledge articles, and communications related to platform changes and new capabilities.
- Engage with business stakeholders to understand collaboration pain points and translate them into platform improvements.
- Ensure technical documentation, engineering standards, and support content are maintained and accessible.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in Microsoft 365 engineering, administration, or collaboration technology roles.
- Deep, hands-on expertise in Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business — including configuration, governance, policy management, and troubleshooting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and follow-through across concurrent projects.
- Collaborative, team-oriented, and service-minded with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Willing to be hands-on and "roll up sleeves" to resolve issues and drive outcomes.
Preferred Skills
- Experience researching, piloting, or deploying Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, or other AI-enabled capabilities
- Microsoft certifications such as MS-700 (Teams Administrator), MS-721 (Collaboration Communications Systems Engineer), or related Microsoft 365 credentials.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Purview, compliance features, and data governance within SharePoint and OneDrive.
- Experience with Power Automate, Power Apps, or Viva suite components as they relate to collaboration.
- Knowledge of enterprise intranet or employee experience platforms (e.g., Simpplr, Viva Connections).
- Experience working in an IT service delivery model, including collaboration with Level 1–3 support teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work through ambiguity and complex technical scenarios.
Additional Information
This position requires occasional travel to locations and customer sites across the U.S.
