What are we looking for in a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist?
The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist ensures accuracy and completeness of heath records, in addition to enforcing necessary safeguards to maintain health records that are secure and compliant.
- This is an in-person position at the posted location; remote or hybrid work is not available.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S without the need for current or future visa sponsorship; H-1B visa sponsorship is not offered.
HIM Specialist duties may include:
- Ensures that recordkeeping procedures and storage of all health records are done in a manner consistent with policies and procedures, in addition to state and federal laws and regulations.
- Maintains working knowledge of current federal laws regarding HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Coordinates communication and information with other departments. Maintains a high level of professionalism when interacting with the internal and external entities.
- Responds to and processes internal and external requests for client information accurately and by following procedures as required.
- Serves as an expert helping to direct release of information and other requests to the proper departments, ensuring resolution.
- Responsible for scanning, indexing and committing documents to the client’s electronic health record.
- Performs quality checks on the electronic health record by verifying the accuracy of documents uploaded into the document imaging system and corrects index errors as required.
- Accurately submits petitions and all related documents for ITA and LRA orders to the Clerk’s Office.
- Accurately documents in the electronic health record all required data elements related to ITA and LRA orders.
- Schedules appointments with providers as required to complete necessary paperwork.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of general office experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
