What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Engineer position at CompoSecure?
Position Summary
The Network Engineer will oversee daily operation of the organization’s hybrid network infrastructure spanning on-premises datacenters, cloud environments (AWS, Azure), and manufacturing/OT networks. This role encompasses switches, routers, firewalls, wireless systems, and SD-WAN. The Network Engineer will work closely with the DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure teams in the design, planning, and execution of production and internal projects, including cloud connectivity, zero-trust network architecture, and network automation. The Network Engineer will be closely involved in site reliability engineering efforts including infrastructure-as-code, network observability, and application performance monitoring.
This role would require you to be onsite 5 days a week in Somerset, NJ.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Support and maintenance of hybrid application delivery environments including cloud workloads (AWS VPC, Azure VNet), on-premises virtual infrastructure, containerized platforms, and manufacturing/OT network segments across multiple sites
- Establishing and evolving the networking environment by designing system configurations, implementing infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible), directing deployments, and defining, documenting, and enforcing network standards
- Design and implementation of high availability and resilient network solutions including SD-WAN, redundant WAN links, cloud interconnects (Direct Connect, ExpressRoute), and failover architectures across all layers of the network stack
- Maximizing network performance by implementing modern observability tools (SNMP, NetFlow, Datadog, PRTG, or similar), proactive alerting, capacity planning, and rapid troubleshooting of network problems and outages
- Undertaking network fault investigations across LAN, WAN, WLAN, and cloud environments using packet captures, log correlation, and telemetry from multiple sources
- Securing network systems by implementing zero-trust network access (ZTNA) principles, network segmentation, NAC policies, and defining and monitoring access controls across on-premises and cloud environments
- Support and administration of next-generation firewall (NGFW) environments, SASE/SSE platforms, IDS/IPS, and web filtering in alignment with the IT security policy and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001)
- Maintaining current knowledge of emerging network technologies (SD-WAN, SASE, Wi-Fi 6E/7, network automation, AI-driven networking) through training, certifications, professional publications, and industry events
- Configuration and lifecycle management of routing, switching, and wireless equipment, including firmware upgrades, configuration backups, and change management documentation
- IP address management (IPAM), DNS/DHCP administration, VLAN design, and capacity planning across datacenter, cloud, and campus network environments
- Collaborating with project management, security, cloud engineering, DevOps, and service desk teams on a regular basis to ensure network changes align with business objectives
- Aid in the monitoring, support, and reliability engineering of datacenter and cloud environments including network infrastructure, servers, and OT/manufacturing network segments
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field. In lieu of degree, 5 years’ of progressive network engineering experience
- Solid technical background with next-generation firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, or equivalent) including policy management, threat prevention, URL filtering, and SSL decryption
- Expert knowledge of BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, SD-WAN, and VPN/IPsec technologies; familiarity with cloud networking constructs (AWS VPC, Azure VNet, transit gateways)
- Knowledge of modern network technologies including SD-WAN, SASE/SSE, MPLS, direct internet access (DIA), SIP/UCaaS, Wi-Fi 6E/7, and the deployment and integration of these services across enterprise environments
- Proficiency with Windows and Linux system administration; experience with network automation tools and scripting (Python, Ansible, Terraform, or PowerShell)
- Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes networking), and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Mid-size to enterprise environment experience preferred, particularly in manufacturing or regulated industries
- Industry certifications preferred: CCNP/CCIE, Palo Alto PCNSE, AWS Advanced Networking, Azure Network Engineer Associate, or equivalent
- Proactive mindset with a willingness to drive continuous improvement, adopt new technologies, and champion automation to reduce manual processes
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to create clear network diagrams, runbooks, and technical documentation
- Must be a collaborative team player with strong customer service skills, ability to participate in on-call rotation, and willingness to work flexible hours during maintenance windows or incidents
