Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QAQC) Manager – Overnight Shift
Location: Silver Spring, Maryland
Shift: Full-time overnight schedule, 6:00 PM – 4:00 AM, working four 10-hour shifts per week. Additional overtime hours are expected based on project demands and schedule requirements.
Security Clearance Requirements
This position requires federal security credentials prior to being granted access to the job site, and the clearance process may take several months to complete.
- Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain the following:
- HSPD-12 Background Investigation and Clearance
- GSA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential (Federal Badge)
- Ability to successfully pass all required federal background screening and badging processes prior to site access
Candidates who currently possess or have previously held federal facility credentials or badging are strongly preferred.
Job Overview
The Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QAQC) Manager is responsible for ensuring all construction activities meet or exceed project specifications, federal requirements, and establish quality standards for a federal energy infrastructure project in Silver Spring, Maryland. The project includes installation of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), transformer installations, and LED lighting retrofits.
Working primarily overnight shifts, the QAQC Manager oversees inspections, testing, documentation, and quality verification for all construction work, including subcontractor activities. The role ensures that materials, workmanship, documentation, and performance comply with approved plans, contract requirements, and applicable codes while supporting successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and implement the project Quality Control program for all construction activities.
- Conduct Preparatory, Initial, and Follow-Up inspections for definable features of work to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and testing requirements prior to work execution.
- Verify materials, equipment, and installations conform to approved submittals and project standards.
- Inspect workmanship and construction quality to ensure compliance with contract requirements and approved tolerances.
- Coordinate inspections and testing activities with subcontractors and project management.
- Document findings and maintain Daily Contractor Quality Control Reports including inspections, deficiencies, testing results, and corrective actions.
- Verify materials delivered to the project site meet approved specifications and are properly documented and stored.
- Ensure measuring and testing equipment used during commissioning and start-up activities are properly calibrated and documented in accordance with recognized standards.
- Perform inspections of work prior to concealment (such as embedded components) to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Participate in quality meetings and coordinate with project leadership and government representatives when required.
- Support final inspections and testing to verify system completion and compliance with project requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of construction quality control or quality assurance experience, preferably on federal or large commercial construction projects.
- Experience supporting electrical infrastructure, energy systems, or industrial construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Experience managing construction QC documentation and reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of federal construction quality management practices.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work full-time overnight shifts and adapt to project schedule requirements.
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical), Construction Management, or a related technical discipline preferred. Candidates with significant construction, quality control, or field engineering experience in lieu of a degree may also be considered.
Other certifications and education:
- Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors Certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction Certification
Experience supporting federal or government-regulated construction projects is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
The position requires active presence on a construction site and the ability to perform the following:
- Walk construction sites for extended periods during inspections.
- Climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas.
- Work outdoors and in varying environmental conditions.
- Lift and carry up to 25–35 pounds occasionally.
- Wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and protective footwear.
- Reside within a reasonable driving distance; this position does not provide travel, relocation, or per diem.
- Work overnight shifts (typically 6:00 PM – 4:00 AM) and occasionally support alternate shifts depending on project needs.
Salary : $90,000 - $125,000
