ABOUT THE ROLE

Complete Genomics is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to join our Finance team in San Jose, California.

This role is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company's financial records while supporting monthly financial reporting, manufacturing operations, inventory accounting, and corporate accounting activities.

As a key member of the Finance organization, you will partner with Accounting, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and business leaders to ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported. You will play an important role in month-end close, balance sheet management, financial analysis, audit support, tax compliance activities, and future ERP initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Month-End & Year-End Close

  • General Ledger Management: Maintain and support day-to-day general ledger accounting activities and corporate close processes.
  • Journal Entry Preparation: Prepare and post journal entries related to assets, liabilities, revenue, expenses, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and amortization.
  • Close Process Execution: Support timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Financial Statement Support: Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements and supporting schedules.

Account Reconciliations & Balance Sheet Management

  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Perform detailed reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Account Analysis: Investigate and resolve discrepancies, reconciling items, and unusual account fluctuations.
  • Fixed Asset Accounting: Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, capital asset additions, transfers, and disposals.
  • Roll-Forward Schedules: Maintain schedules for accrued liabilities, deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other key accounts.
  • Intercompany Accounting: Support intercompany reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding balances.

Manufacturing & Inventory Accounting

  • Inventory Accounting: Support inventory valuation, inventory reconciliations, and inventory-related financial reporting.
  • Cost Analysis: Analyze manufacturing costs, variances, and operational drivers impacting financial performance.
  • Standard Costing Support: Maintain and review standard costs, bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and manufacturing assumptions.
  • Operational Partnership: Collaborate with Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to ensure accurate financial treatment of inventory and production activities.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, schedules, and supporting analyses.
  • Variance Analysis: Analyze actual results against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods to identify key business drivers.
  • Management Reporting: Provide ad hoc reporting and financial analysis to support decision-making across the organization.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and supported by appropriate documentation.

Compliance, Audit & Controls

  • GAAP Compliance: Ensure accounting activities comply with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Audit Support: Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for internal and external auditors.
  • Tax Support: Assist with corporate tax reporting requirements and related accounting activities.
  • Internal Controls: Support the development and maintenance of strong accounting controls and financial processes.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • ERP Systems Support: Participate in ERP implementation, enhancement, testing, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, automation, and reporting capabilities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Accounting, Finance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Payroll, and business stakeholders to support organizational objectives.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING US

Technical Accounting Expertise

  • General Ledger Accounting: Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting month-end close activities.
  • Financial Reporting Knowledge: Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial statements, and accounting principles.
  • Manufacturing Accounting Exposure: Experience supporting inventory accounting, cost accounting, standard costing, or manufacturing operations is preferred.
  • ERP Experience: Experience working within ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Workday, or similar platforms.
  • Excel Proficiency: Strong spreadsheet and data analysis skills, including Pivot Tables, Lookups, and financial reporting models.

WHAT YOUR EDUCATION LOOKS LIKE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1–4 years of experience in corporate accounting, public accounting, audit, or related accounting functions.
  • CPA certification or CPA-track preferred.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, biotechnology, life sciences, medical device, semiconductor, or product-based organizations is preferred.
  • Experience with financial systems integrations, automation, or ERP implementations is a plus.


HOW WE WILL REWARD YOU

The base salary range for this position is $75,000 – $100,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and job responsibilities.

This position is eligible to participate in an annual bonus program.
