Job Summary

As a Fiscal Services Accountant in San José Unified, you will play a critical role in ensuring the district’s financial integrity through accurate budgeting, reporting, and fiscal management. You will analyze complex financial data, oversee accounts, and support month- and year-end processes to ensure resources are allocated and used responsibly in alignment with policies and regulations. Through your expertise, collaboration, and attention to detail, you will support informed decision-making, strengthen financial systems, and help ensure that district resources are effectively managed to support student success.

You will analyze complex financial data, oversee accounts, and support month- and year-end processes to ensure resources are allocated and used responsibly in alignment with policies and regulations. Through your expertise, collaboration, and attention to detail, you will support informed decision-making, strengthen financial systems, and help ensure that district resources are effectively managed to support student success. You bring the ability to analyze complex financial data, apply sound judgment, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations. You are collaborative, organized, and dedicated to supporting sound fiscal practices that positively impact students, staff, and the broader school community.

As an Accountant, you will be responsible for (but not limited to): -Preparing, analyzing, reconciling, and maintaining general ledger accounts and financial transactions. -Supporting the development of annual budgets, including revenue and expenditure forecasting and cash flow analysis. -Completing month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and resolving discrepancies. -Ensuring funds are budgeted, allocated, and used in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations. -Reviewing and approving expenditures such as reimbursements, timesheets, purchase orders, and credit card statements. -Conducting financial analyses, audits, and reporting to support decision-making and compliance requirements. -Designing and improving financial processes and procedures in collaboration with leadership. -Training, advising, and supporting staff on fiscal policies, systems, and best practices. -Coordinating and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and ensure accuracy. -Communicating effectively with stakeholders and maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. What you need for this position: -A four-year or graduate degree in finance, accounting, or business administration and two (2) years of relevant work experience, preferably in a California school district; or -Six (6) or more years of comparable experience and/or education may be substituted -Strong computer literacy and the ability to use financial systems and technology effectively -Experience working as an accountant in a school district preferred
