Senior Work Control Planner
Pay: $80-$90/hr
Location: Aiken, SC (On-site). Local candidates or candidates willing to relocate at their own expense.
Contract: 1-year base with two (2) 1-year option periods
Work Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM
Clearance: DOE “L” required (obtainable after award)
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a federal contractor supporting Savannah River Site for a Senior Work Control Planner. This role develops and/or reviews large and complex work packages — including written step-by-step work instructions, procedures, and safety and testing requirements — for the implementation and control of operations, maintenance, or modification work activities within a given area.
Work may include, separately or in conjunction with work control development, recommendations and instruction for mechanical, electrical, radiological, and chemical energy and systems control lockout and tagout, as well as resolving work package restraints and bringing work packages to final closure. This position supports the site's Deactivation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and issue large and/or complex equipment and system modification work packages.
- Review, understand, and interpret engineering, design, technical, and vendor prints, drawings, schematics, documents, diagrams, and specifications to ensure design information is sufficient to develop modifications for electrical and mechanical systems.
- Perform physical walkdowns of the area or system to identify potentially hazardous conditions or configuration anomalies.
- Provide technical review of work control packages for quality and consistency, and provide work guidance and instruction to other work control personnel in a lead or coordinating capacity.
- Analyze time and material requirements for work activities.
- Prepare, review, and issue corrective maintenance work packages.
- Develop and issue preventive maintenance records and work packages.
- Discuss and interface on problems and concerns related to work control and work package activity with site organizations.
- Provide technical advice regarding maintenance and work control to facility management or work control personnel in an engineering or subject-matter-expert capacity.
Required Education & Experience
Candidate must meet at least one of the following: a Bachelor’s degree in a non-technical discipline and at least 4–5 years of practical experience in work control, materials management, E&I / mechanical maintenance, or related areas; an Associate’s degree in a technical or mechanical area and at least 8 years of practical experience; or a high school diploma and at least 10–12 years of practical experience.

- The ability to understand and interpret various electrical and mechanical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics is required.
- Ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking work planning activities is required.
- Ability to coordinate the work of teams, set and meet goals and objectives, and prioritize work.
- A working knowledge of DOE, Federal, and state regulations as well as existing engineering and quality assurance standards and procedures is required.
- Requires a comprehensive understanding of site work control procedures and work practices, radiological control, quality assurance, configuration management, material control, and procedures for both maintenance and operations related areas.
- Requires a thorough understanding, from a conceptual level, of various processes, systems, and equipment.
- Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lockout point identification.
Security Clearance
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties; the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years is preferred.
- Previous SRS or DOE facility experience is preferred.
- Previous SRS or DOE facility work planner experience within the last three (3) years is preferred.
Contract Details
Duration: 1-year base contract with two (2) 1-year option periods. Option periods are not guaranteed and are executed at the discretion of the hiring manager.
Estimated Hours: 2,080 straight time 200 overtime per year.
Work Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Travel
Travel may be required and is subject to advance approval by the hiring manager.
