Role Description The Staff Accountant is a full-time, on-site position located in Bangor, ME. This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities including processing accounts payable and receivable, preparing journal entries, and reconciling bank and general ledger accounts. The Staff Accountant assists with month-end and year-end closing, supports budget preparation, and produces routine financial reports for management. The position ensures compliance with internal controls and relevant accounting standards, maintains accurate financial records, and collaborates with program and administrative staff to address accounting inquiries. The role may also support audits, grant reporting, and other finance projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong general accounting knowledge, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Excel, including spreadsheets, data entry, and basic reporting tools.
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and propose accurate adjustments.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple deadlines and maintain detailed records.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with colleagues across programs and departments.
- Ethical judgment and attention to confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and client-related information.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Prior experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or human services finance is beneficial but not required.
