General Statement of Duties: The Center Director is ultimately responsible (either directly or indirectly) for operating the center that ensures the health, safety and quality of care and education for all children at the center. This includes operational management in accordance with established legal and budgetary guidelines, curriculum development and maintenance, staff development and leadership, and ensuring that the needs of the students are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Interview, hire and train staff and interns, making sure that all background and fingerprint checks have been conducted. Also evaluate staff (and interns where appropriate). Collaborate with administrative staff to complete employee scheduling, to plan, and to conduct staff meetings.
  • Ensure that admin staff is accurately maintaining all student records, tuition billing and payment, bookkeeping and other clerical responsibilities are accurate and organized.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a developmentally age-appropriate education curriculum that focuses on social, emotional, and academic learning. Work closely with teachers to review lesson plans and provide feedback as necessary.
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure compliance with safety, licensing, health, and other required standards.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership by fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment; lead by example.
  • Effectively resolve conflicts (including corrective action if necessary) to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
  • Monitors staff performance and addresses issues appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all children are within sight and sound supervision of staff at all times in the classroom and on the playground. Will complete documentation to ensure no children are left behind while transitioning in and out of the classroom and playground.
  • Efficiently manage the Center’s resources, from materials, to equipment. Optimize the use of resources, ensuring cost effectiveness without compromising the quality of care.
  • Ensures the facility is safe and well-stocked, checks that safety equipment is available and working, removing hazards and ensuring the facility is always clean and orderly.
  • Maintain communications with parents of current and prospective students through direct conversation, newsletters, and parent handbook.
  • Implement community outreach activities to maintain and promote positive community relationships.
  • Meet with parents as necessary, to keep parents updated on their child’s development and progress, including discussing ways to address any learning or behavioral issues.
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies (e.g. Licensing, Fire Marshal, Health Department etc.)
  • Records incidents or accidents as required and reports to the Board President.
  • Attend various weekly and monthly area networking meetings.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, staff, board, and other stakeholders
  • Computer literacy and the ability to use a variety of software programs to manage data collection, center management, and outside communication
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, parents, and outside professionals) and to foster a team environment.
  • Ability to keep staff motivated and resolve conflicts. Be able to work independently but in partnership with the Board of Directors.
  • Have a good knowledge of child safety requirements and be up to date on first aid protocol.
  • Must have strong crisis management abilities – be able to remain cool and composed in a crisis.
  • Ability to recognize, model, and ensure developmentally appropriate practices in each classroom and age range
  • Maintain professional appearance within Policy guidelines.
  • Demonstrate confidentiality concerning fellow co-workers, children, and parents.
  • Complete any other job-related tasks as assigned.

Education:

  • Required: Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or related field
  • Preferred: Advanced degree or licensure in Early Childhood Education, or related field

Requirements:

  • Must pass required background and Central Registry checks, and maintain CPR certification
  • Complete and clear background screening(s)
  • Submit a negative tuberculosis (TB) screening at the time of employment and prior to coming into contact with children. Maintain negative TB screening every 2 years

Working Conditions:

This job requires the employee to maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

Pay: From $26.00 per hour
