Position: Youth and Adult Employment Placement Specialist/Job Developer
Program/Location: Alcance: 406 Main Street, Watsonville, CA 95076
Status: Full-Time, hourly position
Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week, including occasional weekends and evenings, Generally 8:30 to 5:00 and may include evenings or weekends depending on the need to communicate with clients.
Salary Range: $24.00-$26.00/per hour
Benefits: Medical (employee share of cost depending on plan selected), vision, life, dental (employee pays half of dental) insurance, Retirement plan (401K plan after six months), 24 days annual leave to start, and 13 paid holidays per year.

Overview: The Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc. (CAB) has been the County’s designated Community Action Agency since 1965, with the mission to eliminate poverty. CAB does so through the 5 program pillars of community building, employment/mentoring, immigration legal services, homelessness prevention and intervention services and special projects that serve over 10,000 people per year, with a staff of over 50 employees.
Program Overview: Under the direction of the Employment Programs Director, the Employment Placement Specialist/Job Developer will provide job readiness support for participants and coordinate with employers/community partners to ensure successful employment outcomes including researching and sending general and specifically identified job openings to participants. The participants may identify a class of job they are interested in, such as outdoor work or a certain trade or field. The position works with CalWorks participants referred by the County of Santa Cruz. These participants are primarily adults although youth aged 16-17 may be referred as well. This position is funded through grants. Involves use of own automobile.
Basic Function:
1) The focus of the work is to place clients in subsidized employment by offering them job opportunities that match their interests. Following from this work, participants may enter unsubsidized employment as well;
2) Works with local employers, business and community organizations to ensure successful placements for participants/clients and employers and;
3) Works with the County, CAB/Alcance, and other community partners who provide collaborative (e.g., wrap around) services to participants/clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure program placement goals are met by ensuring high quality and responsive relationships with program participants and employers/community partners.
- Identify appropriate participant and business employment matches.
- Ensure program subsidized job placement goals are met by building and maintaining relationships with local employers and matching participants skills and interest.
- Public contact experience, marketing background is preferred.
- Support participant success by providing, creating and implementing job readiness services to participants, including communicating employer expectations, appropriate workplace behavior, and interview preparation.
- Assist clients in job placement and job retention to ensure successful program completion.
- In conjunction with participants’ County Human Services Department staff, provide supportive wrap around career counseling and case management support as needed.
- Implements CAB’s Steps4Success protocols to ensure client needs are met.
- Conduct interviews to assess strengths, challenges and create Smartgoals with participants/clients.
- Provide information and referrals to clients as appropriate to support successful employment opportunities (health, rental assistance, food, transportation and, etc.).
- Maintain close and clear communication with team members and direct supervisor re: outcomes attainment, challenges, successes.
- Set-up and organize client files and write administrative and progress reports regarding participant achievement and employer satisfaction (case notes); perform related data entry and contribute to required reports.
- Collect timecards from employers and process check request to ensure timely subsidized wage payment to employers.
- Complete a monthly workbook with participant data and wages.
- Participate in agency wide meetings and trainings.
- Accuracy and timely data collection to ensure reports are created timely and accurate.
- Operation of office machines including computer workstation.
- Facilitation of job readiness workshops (one-to-one and group setting)
- Assist with job fairs
- Timely complete mock interviews, intakes, goal with clients.
- Timely communication with the team and partners clients progress.
- Complete MAA Time reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, public relations, psychology, or an area related to job readiness/development is desired, or equivalent related experience. Public contact experience and sales/marketing background is preferred. Demonstrated professional experience in career counseling/job development preferred.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Clean driving record, California driver's license, proof of insurance and automobile. Must be fully vaccinated against COVID19 and pass background check.
