Position: **Program Specialist
Program/Location: Santa Cruz County, Immigration Project
Main Office: 406 Main Street, Watsonville
Satellite Site: 501 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz
Status: Full-Time
Hours per week: 40 hours per week, may include occasional evenings or weekends
Salary Range: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
Benefits: Medical (employee share of cost depending on plan selected), vision, life, dental (employee pays half of dental) insurance, Retirement plan (401K plan after six months), 24 days annual leave to start, and 13 paid holidays per year.
Reports to: Lead Accredited Representative, with oversight by the Immigration Project Program Director, Directing Attorney, and Lead Staff Attorney.

Overview: The Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc. (CAB) has been the County’s designated Community Action Agency since 1965, with the mission to eliminate poverty. CAB does so through the 5 program pillars of community building, employment/mentoring, immigration legal services, homelessness prevention and intervention services and special projects that serve over 10,000 people per year, with a staff of over 50 employees.
INTRODUCTION
Under the supervision of the Lead Accredited Representative, the Program Specialist provides a variety of legal support services and program support activities for immigrants.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under supervision of an Attorney or DOJ Accredited Representative, schedule appointments, interview clients, and deliver immigration legal services which may include applications for DACA, green card renewal, Naturalization, family-based immigration petitions, applications for permanent residency, and other applications for immigration benefits.
- Under supervision of an Attorney or DOJ Accredited Representative, complete applications for various immigration benefits accurately, efficiently, and completely.
- Complete legal trainings required to obtain and retain Department of Justice Recognition and Accreditation.
- Conduct education and outreach to the public on immigration topics via video conference and at in-person events.
- Maintain highly accurate and organized legal records, files, and electronic records.
- Perform consistent data entry and filing of confidential documents and records and contribute to reports as needed.
- Set and adhere to a schedule that includes client appointments, staff meetings, outreach events, administrative tasks, and other job duties.
- Communicate proactively with supervisor regarding progress on cases and any need for support
- Provide information and outreach services and referrals to public benefits such as CalFresh and Medi-Cal.
- Translate written documents from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish.
- Maintain clean, organized workspace and environment.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual/Biliterate (English/Spanish) REQUIRED. (Fluency in additional languages strongly preferred.)
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Adaptability to a fast-paced, high-volume office setting.
- Outstanding ability to organize a large number of documents and electronic records.
- Consistent, accurate work product with strong attention to detail.
- High level of integrity in handling sensitive documents and confidential information.
- Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor and work well with a variety of people.
- Ability to organize and prioritize activities.
- Ability to use computers and phones for long periods of time.
- Demonstrated ability with data management, Microsoft Office, and electronic communication.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds, bend, reach and squat to perform filing and retrieval of physical records, equipment and supplies.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of community resources and immigration issues and procedures.
- Previous Department of Justice Accreditation preferred, or willing to seek within 1 year of hire.
- Committed to participating in ongoing training and immigration legal educational opportunities.
- Must be comfortable with peers reviewing case work and periodic case file audits
- Must be comfortable with receiving and implementing feedback.

- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 preferred.
