Overview of Position
The Head of Human Resources is a mission-driven, strategic leader responsible for building, developing, and sustaining a high-performing workforce. This role partners closely with the CEO and executive leadership team to align people strategies with organizational goals, ensuring both mission impact and long-term sustainability.
This leader oversees all aspects of the employee lifecycle-including talent acquisition across both hourly and professional roles, total rewards, performance management, and HR systems-while fostering a culture that reflects our values and supports an exceptional employee experience. The Head of HR serves as a trusted advisor to leadership, strengthening organizational capability, driving engagement, and ensuring compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with executive leadership on long-term strategic planning and annual business planning to align people strategies with organizational priorities
- Lead and optimize all HR functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, learning and development, and employee engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders, building management capability and supporting effective decision-making
- Partner with leadership to align staffing models with operational needs and financial performance, recognizing the impact of workforce decisions on revenue and sustainability
- Utilize workforce data and analytics to inform decision-making, identify trends, and improve organizational outcomes
- Oversee compensation and benefits strategy, including vendor and broker partnerships and annual renewals
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; maintain appropriate policies, procedures, and documentation
- Lead policy development, review, and implementation to support organizational effectiveness and compliance
- Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
- Lead employee engagement initiatives that strengthen culture and reinforce organizational values
- Oversee HRIS and ensure accurate, secure, and effective management of employee data
- Partner with leadership and the Board of Directors, including leading the HR/Policy Committee
- Oversee agency-wide training and development initiatives, including onboarding and ongoing professional development
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- 8–10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in healthcare or nonprofit settings
- Demonstrated experience partnering with executive leadership and contributing to organizational strategy
- Demonstrated experience recruiting and hiring both hourly and professional staff
- Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices
- Experience leading compensation, benefits, and talent management strategies
- Proven ability to use data and metrics to drive decisions and improve outcomes
- Experience working with boards or governance structures preferred
