By joining our Division of Structural Design and Engineering Geology and Field Services Branch as a Transportation Engineering Technologist II in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to work as a drill helper performing geotechnical subsurface investigations of various roadway and structure projects statewide for Kentucky’s Department of Highways.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, computer science, data science, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology;
OR
Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of engineering-related experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: 1. Possess a valid EIT certification issued by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites and other types of work zones which requires the following of safety procedures.

- Obtain rock and soil samples for geotechnical analysis
- Operate drill rigs, dozers, large trucks, etc.
- Log and record field data and database entry
- Perform minor and routine mechanical repairs and maintenance
- Obtaining property entry and utility locations
- Geotechnical and Transportation Technician and Surveying
- Subsurface Investigations and Rotary Drilling
- Mechanical Repair and Maintenance
- Rock and Soil Sampling

- Must have eight years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the third education option above;
- Must have six years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified InspectionTeam Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the fourth education option above.
