If this sounds like you, then you might be the ideal candidate for Legal Secretary with the Kentucky Innocence Project of the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy.
In this important role in Kentucky’s largest criminal defense firm, you will be acting as both a liaison between attorneys, clients, and other members of the community. You will also be expected to draft and edit a variety of documents, so excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - are a must. Time management skills are also valued as the ideal candidate will be handling multiple time-sensitive tasks for various attorneys, and the ideal candidate will be able to prioritize and complete requested duties independently. Knowledge of programs like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Courtnet, and other court related platforms is preferred.
Our clients are people who have been wrongfully convicted of a criminal offense and currently serving time in a Kentucky prison. Compassion for our clients and commitment to our mission are critical characteristics for the successful candidate.
A pleasant, outgoing personality on the phone are also highly desirable traits for this position.
This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of clerical experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.
