Description
The Kentucky Office of the Attorney General, Office of the Solicitor General, Criminal Appeals Division is responsible for representing the Commonwealth of Kentucky in all criminal appeals before the Kentucky Court of Appeals and Kentucky Supreme Court, and in defending against post-conviction challenges in state and federal court. The division is looking for a self-motivated and highly organized individual with law office and paralegal experience to join our team to provide legal secretarial support to a team of attorneys.
The Legal Secretary Will Be Responsible For
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of clerical experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.

- Providing administrative support to assigned attorneys.
- Preparing and filing appellate briefs and other legal filings.
- Preparing and maintaining case files, computerized dockets, and attorney calendars.
- Preparing correspondence, various internal reports, forms, and travel vouchers.
- Serving as a liaison between the parties and attorneys.
- Experience working in a law office or court
- Experience preparing appellate briefs for filing
- Customer service experience
- Microsoft Office experience
- Experience working in a team environment
- Ability to work in an office setting and within deadlines
- Ability to adapt to the needs of the Office
