What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Start Nutrition Consultant position at Committee for Early Childhood Development Head Start?
SUMMARY:
CECD is seeking a registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. The Nutritionist must be enthusiastic, exhibit a high degree of professionalism and demonstrate a strong commitment to the children and families we serve. The Nutritionist must also demonstrate the ability to motivate and educate parents and staff.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The scope of responsibilities includes providing nutritional guidance and food safety for the program. The Nutritionist will conduct nutrition counseling for families in three Head Start sites. S/he will be responsible for implementing health and safety practices that adhere to the Head Start Program Performance Standards, along with providing nutrition intervention and counseling to a diverse population. The Nutritionist will work with the food service staff to develop CACFP-compliant menus and ensure that the food service kitchen records are accurate.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific roles/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing nutritional guidance for program staff.
- Providing nutritional information to parents.
- Reviewing cycle menus as per CACFP guidelines.
- Submitting monthly nutrition reports.
- Leading nutrition and consumer education workshops for parents, teachers, Family Community Engagement staff and food service staff.
- Providing individual conferences with parents.
- Reviewing the children’s nutrition and health records and provide counseling when necessary.
- Using the ChildPlus database to input and track child’s health and wellbeing as related to nutrition.
- Following up with the Executive Director to ensure that the program meets the CACFP guidelines and to discuss any issues/findings/concerns.
- Ensuring that the center serves meals and snacks that meet CACFP standards, and that food production records, food inventory, etc. are up to date.
- Serving as the food and nutrition expert for the program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor Degree or higher in a related field
- Must be a Registered Dietician (RD) or Certified Dietician Nutritionist (CDN)
- 5 or more years of experience as a nutritionist
- Good communication and math skills.
- Fluent in verbal and written English as well as have strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in the use of Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive), MS Word, Zoom
- Must be willing to work with diverse groups and perform with minimum supervision.
- Must successfully pass the NYC Department of Investigation and State Central Registry for Child Abuse screenings. The fees are $126.75 and are the sole responsibility of the candidate.
- Previous experience as a consultant with a Head Start program a plus.
COMPENSATION:
- $125.00 an hour
- The number of hours will be determined upon hire.
