POSITION SUMMARY: he Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) Support Specialist plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment for children, staff, and families. This position combines transportation responsibilities with facility maintenance, janitorial services, and general support for classrooms and kitchen operations. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a dynamic childcare setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transportation Duties:
- Safely transport children to and from school or designated locations using a center-approved vehicle or bus
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance
- Maintain order and ensure children follow safety procedures during transport
- Adhere to all traffic laws, childcare transportation regulations, and center policies
Facilities & Janitorial Duties:
- Perform routine cleaning tasks including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, and sanitizing surfaces
- Clean and maintain bathrooms, breakroom, staff lounge, dining hall, front lobby, and conference room
- Empty trash, restock supplies, and ensure all areas remain hygienic and presentable
- Monitor facility cleanliness and report maintenance issues as needed
Playground & Outdoor Maintenance:
- Keep playground areas clean, safe, and free of trash and hazardous or broken equipment
- Perform basic upkeep to ensure a safe play environment for children
General Maintenance & Setup:
- Assemble and install furniture such as shelves, cribs, and classroom equipment
- Drill and mount items (e.g., wall fixtures, shelving) as needed
- Perform minor repairs and general upkeep tasks around the facility
Classroom & Kitchen Support:
- Assist teachers or kitchen staff when needed, including setup, cleanup, or supervision support
- Help maintain organization and cleanliness in classrooms and food service areas.
REPORTS TO: Will Report to Site Director and/or CCDF Administrator
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Capable of standing, bending, kneeling, and performing physical labor including but not limited to climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand engage in repetitive motions, grasp, walk, feel, touch, speak, hear and see throughout the day
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Active childcare setting with frequent interaction with children and staff
- Both indoor and outdoor work required
- May require flexible hours depending on transportation schedules and center needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL may be required depending on vehicle type)
- Experience in janitorial, maintenance, or childcare settings preferred
- Ability to pass background checks and meet childcare licensing requirements
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and cleanliness
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
