Column Technical Services is seeking a skilled and dedicated Quality Specialist with CMM experience to join a growing manufacturing team in Itasca, IL. This role involves collaborating with the Quality Manager and taking responsibility for operating and programming CMMs to ensure precise measurement of dimensions and features of parts and components, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and quality control. As a key member of the Quality Department, the Quality Specialist plays a crucial role in monitoring and enhancing the quality of operational processes and final outputs. This position requires conducting inspections, audits, and ensuring all processes aligned with print specifications to consistently deliver high-quality parts. The Quality Specialist will actively collaborate with across departments to maintain open communication and exceed customer expectations. Responsibilities:

  • Operate CMMs to measure parts and prototypes, ensuring alignment with blueprint specifications.
  • Program CMM software for precise measurement tasks.
  • Analyze measurement data to identify discrepancies or quality issues in components.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation, including detailed reports and records of findings.
  • Verify the quality of manufactured products by checking dimensions and features for compliance.
  • Inspect and calibrate inspection fixtures to maintain accuracy.
  • Manage and maintain the CMM software to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with technicians, quality control teams, and management to uphold precision in products and processes.
  • Diagnose and resolve challenges encountered during the measurement process.

Skills And Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of experience in manufacturing or quality control roles is preferred.
  • An associate degree in related field, such as manufacturing or metrology, is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CMMs, programming software, and metrology principles.
  • Proficiency in advanced mathematics and technical competencies.
  • Skilled in blueprint reading; knowledge of GD&T is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with ISO9001 and 14001 standards.
  • Awareness of IATF 16949 is an asset.
  • Experience with PPAP package preparation is required.
  • Capability to identify and address issues related to CMM operation and measurement accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey findings and recommendations.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on precision and accuracy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in the use of handheld tools, such as calculators, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and proficient in computer skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Calibration experience is a plus.
  • Capable of performing effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent multitasking and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Skilled in blueprint interpretation and working with bubble graphs.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented with the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships across departments.
