Head Start Preschool Lead Teacher

Hours:  Regular/Full-time/Part Year – 37.5 hours per week – 46 weeks per year (non-exempt)

Wage:  $20.39 to $24.20 based on educational credential

Position Summary:

Head Start Teachers lead the classroom team in using evidence and play-based learning models and have an additional responsibility to collaborate with family members and other Head Start staff to achieve positive outcomes for children of all abilities. The Head Start Teacher maintains a successful classroom environment that promotes the healthy growth and development of enrolled children and enhances school readiness.

Essential Education and Experience:

• An Associate, Bachelor or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; OR
• A Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool or an Associate's degree in early childhood education or a related field, and be enrolled in a plan of study leading to a bachelor's degree; OR
• NYS Teacher Certification for Early Childhood Education (Birth through Grade 2)
• One or more years of experience in an early childhood education or care setting
• One or more years supervising staff in an early childhood education or care setting

Other:

• This position generally requires a clean, valid, New York State driver's license 
• Fluency in English & Spanish is desirable 
• Following an offer of employment, subject to an inquiry with the New York State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment and background check
• Medical examination, including tuberculin (PPD)test
