Head Start On-Call Child Care Aide

Title:     Head Start On-Call Classroom Aide (substitute)               

Hours:  Up to 7 hours per day                      

Locations: In-Person - Craryville, Hudson, Philmont, and Valatie 

Wages: $16.00 per hour (Non-Exempt)

Position Summary:  Assist classroom staff and cooperate in a supportive role carrying out developmentally appropriate activities when regular classroom staff are not available. Help to promote the health, nutrition and education of enrolled Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start children and attend to their safety and welfare. Must enjoy working with children!

Essential Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent, plus related experience preferred OR
• At least one year of documented experience working with or caring for preschool age children

Essential Abilities, Knowledge, and Skills: 

• Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially good listening
• Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of three- and four-year-old children
• Current Food Handler’s Card, Pediatric CPR and First Aid desirable
• Dependable and flexible
• Enjoy working with children from diverse backgrounds
• Familiar with Head Start philosophy and practices desirable
• Bilingual in English/Spanish desirable

Licenses or Certifications Preferred:  Clean and valid NYS Driver’s license that meets insurance carrier requirements so individuals can travel between job sites and assist with errands – preferred.

Other Requirements:

• Following an offer of employment, subject to an inquiry with the New York State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment and a background check
• Medical examination, including tuberculin (PPD)test
