POSITION SUMMARY
The incumbent in this position is responsible for driving a van to Coordinated Transportation clients to and from the Senior Center and or the Vocational Center and to deliver meals to homebound clients. Duties include cleaning the interior and exterior of their assigned vehicles, helping package mid-day meals and assisting kitchen staff when necessary.
This position reports to the Department Manager. The incumbent in the position drives vans for the Public Transit Department. Maintains schedules for all vehicles and assists in other areas as assigned.
The incumbent in the position may be required to walk, stoop, stand, crouch, run and lift weights in excess of 50 pounds. Work is performed primarily in climate-controlled environments, however, may on occasion be exposed to inclement weather. The incumbent may be exposed to machinery and its moving parts, and to contagious or infectious diseases.
Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalent required. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of Georgia drivers license for the class of vehicle or equipment operated.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Transports Coordinated Transportation clients to and from the Senior Center or Vocational Center and delivers meals to homebound clients.
- Assists passengers in boarding and disembarking from the vans.
- Collects applicable fares and any donations received in accordance with department procedures.
- Insures the safety and comfort of the passengers while van is mobile.
- Compiles and records miles driven, gas and oil usage, and number of clients transported and meals delivered.
- Maintains maintenance schedules for all vehicles.
- Maintains appearance of van and insures vehicle is in safe operating condition.
- Prepares client safety incident reports when required..
- Assists in the kitchen and the Senior Center when required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of legal and safe driving procedures.
- Knowledge of county geography, including locations of subdivisions, and streets.
- Knowledge of two-way radio.
- Skill in driving and map reading.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to work outdoors and be occasionally exposed to inclement weather.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalent required. Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations required. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of Georgia drivers license for the class of vehicle or equipment operated.
A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
