The Middle School Arts Director works in coordination with the Director of Visual & Performing Arts and the Middle School Principal to plan and implement the arts curriculum and programming in the middle school. The MS Arts Director supports the MS Arts faculty in creating an impactful arts experience for all Colorado Academy middle school students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain rosters for all trimesters of 6th grade and 7th/8th grade Visual & Performing Arts classes and music ensembles
  • Develop and oversee a cohesive vision for all MS arts programs (visual arts, music, theater, dance, etc.)
  • Work with the Visual Arts Chair, the Theater/Dance Chair, and the Music Chair to create the MS Visual & Performing arts annual event calendar. This includes music and theater performances as well as Mustang Assemblies and Town Halls
  • Reserve spaces for concerts, recitals, and rehearsals
  • Communicate with students concerning art class assignments
  • Collaborate with Arts Director and MS Principal in identifying and developing new classes to strengthen the overall Visual & Performing Arts program
  • Build relationships with parents, local arts organizations, and community partners
  • Support inclusive opportunities for all students to engage in the arts, regardless of experience level
  • Partner with the Director of Visual & Performing Arts and the MS Principal to support the professional growth of the Visual & Performing Arts Faculty, which may include assisting with faculty observations and coaching of MS Arts faculty

Expectations:

  • Consistent attendance of all school days. This includes all student contact, professional development and parent/teacher conference days. The school day begins at 7:50am and concludes at 3:50am
  • Fulfillment of teaching contract hours through either MS or US class instruction
  • Attendance and support of MS arts events
  • Professionalism as it pertains to communications with students and parents
  • Completes grading and other administrative tasks in a timely and thorough manner based on each division’s specific grading/comment deadlines
  • Attends all Middle School and department meetings throughout the school year
  • Communicates absences in a timely manner and requests personal days in advance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in visual or performing arts education or performance, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in management in an education environment
  • Strong understanding of educational pedagogy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
  • Proficiency with school-supported technology (e.g., Google Workspace, learning management systems).
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that values diversity and equity.
  • Clearances: Must pass all required state and federal background checks.

The pay for this position is $64,900 - $116,900. Although this is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any wage differential that may exist for the position does not relate to sex, gender, or gender identity, but relates solely to a seniority system, a merit system, or relevant education, training and/or experience. Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance benefit programs are available, as is a 403(b) retirement plan. Eligibility for all benefit programs is defined by the applicable plan document.
