What are the responsibilities and job description for the Independent Account Executive, Employee Benefits position at Colonial Life?
About the Opportunity
Colonial Life is expanding its employee benefits sales team in the East Bay and is looking for motivated, coachable, and entrepreneurial individuals who want to build a long-term career in business-to-business sales.
This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity with uncapped commission potential and the ability to develop residual earnings consistent with independent insurance producer compensation. Prior insurance or employee benefits experience is not required. For the right candidate, we will support your path into the industry, including covering the cost of required education and licensing coursework.
For candidates with prior sales experience, this opportunity offers a very compelling value proposition: Colonial Life provides access to employee benefit solutions that can often be offered to businesses at no direct cost to the employer. That means you are not simply asking business owners to consider another expense. You are opening the door to a conversation about improving their benefits offering, supporting employee retention, and helping protect their workforce, often without requiring the business to add to its benefits budget.
If you know how to prospect, set meetings, build relationships, and create interest with decision-makers, this market can provide a strong path to ramp quickly. You will be backed by an established national brand, proven systems, experienced benefits professionals, and hands-on field training.
As an Account Executive focused on Employee Benefits, you will work with business owners, executives, and HR leaders to help them strengthen their employee benefits offering through Colonial Life’s workplace solutions.
You will help employers evaluate voluntary benefit options that can provide financial protection for employees and their families, often with little to no direct cost to the business.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing relationships with local businesses and key decision-makers
- Prospecting, networking, and building a pipeline of new business opportunities
- Learning how to conduct discovery meetings with employers
- Presenting employee benefit solutions in a clear, consultative manner
- Helping coordinate employee education and enrollment meetings
- Building long-term client relationships and referral opportunities
- Representing Colonial Life with professionalism, integrity, and a service-first mindset
You will not be left to figure this out on your own.
New representatives receive hands-on support, field training, and guidance from successful and experienced benefits producers, agency leaders, and managers. You will have access to proven sales processes, product training, enrollment tools, coaching, and on-the-job development designed to help you build confidence and progress quickly.
For candidates new to the insurance industry, we will help guide you through the licensing process and provide support as you learn the business.
Prior insurance experience is not required. The right mindset matters more.
Strong candidates will have:
- A competitive, self-motivated personality
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A willingness to prospect, network, and initiate business conversations
- Professionalism and personal accountability
- A coachable attitude and desire to learn
- Interest in sales, business, insurance, financial services, HR, or employee benefits
- Reliable transportation for local business meetings
- An active Life & Health insurance license is a plus, but not required
This opportunity offers the ability to build a career in a stable, high-need industry while developing long-term client relationships and income potential.
You will have access to:
- Uncapped commission-based earnings
- Residual income opportunities
- Employee benefit solutions that can often be offered at no direct cost to the business
