Requirements

Qualifications

Required:
  • Supervisor of Special Education certification
  • Have a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Have a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • Possess solid knowledge regarding sensory impairments and have experience working with students who have sensory impairments.
  • Knowledge of needs of students with vision impairments
  • Knowledge of needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Knowledge of needs of students who have various speech and language impairments
  • Comprehensive understanding of IDEA, Section 504 and ADA laws and regulations; Child Find and Equitable Participation protocols

Description

Coordinator of Special Education for Sensory Impaired Support Programs to service all schools and programs located and served in the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 service area.

Overview of the Position:
Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 seeks an energetic, experienced and dynamic individual for the Coordinator of Special Education for Sensory Impaired Support Programs. Through creativity and option-thinking, this highly motivated individual will engage others, create opportunities and advance the mission of Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 and promote the goals of the Sensory Impaired Support Programs. The successful candidate will participate in an organization driven by the virtues of excellence, integrity, innovation, enthusiasm, collaboration, and respect.

The Coordinator of Special Education will support the Supervisor of Special Education for the Sensory Impaired Support Program in the efforts to provide instructional leadership to the specialized personnel of the school-age speech-language support program, itinerant hearing support program, vision support program and educational audiology. This leader will need to forge relationships with school district personnel, college and community partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in reviewing staffing needs, program needs, materials, and technology needs
  • Make site visits on a regular basis and meet with building principals and district special education supervisors as needed or requested
  • Work with IU and district personnel to interpret the results of evaluations, IEPs and Section 504 plans; and to monitor student progress.
  • Assist staff with compliance with special education requirements and timelines.
  • Collaborate with members of school teams concerning all facets of programming for students with special needs, from pre-referral intervention to transition and dismissal.
  • Support educational teams with AAC decisions.
  • Support staff in implementation of specially designed instruction.
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating professional development for teachers of exceptional students.
  • Be able to recommend assessment tools, techniques and resources that can assist in the identification of students with sensory impairments

If you are recommended as a finalist for a position, you will need to have all credentials (3 Clearances, School Personnel Health Record) submitted in order to be recommended to the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 Board of Directors for hire. This will include completing an Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 and showing originals of documents you wish to submit to establish employment identity and work authorization. This will be handled through the Recruitment Office.

School Personnel Health Form – READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION.

This form is not required for you to be an active candidate. Please DO NOT have the form completed unless you are directed by a recommending administrator or the Human Resources Office.

If you are recommended as a finalist for a position, you will be required to have a pre-employment medical examination – physical and tuberculosis (TB) test. All results (physical and TB) must be recorded on the School Personnel Health Record. No other forms are acceptable. The physical and TB are at your own expense. If the physical is performed by a Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, the Physician must also sign; the TB test may be done by a physician or licensed health care provider. All areas of the physical and TB test must be completed, signed, and properly dated.

Physical and TB results within the last three months of receipt will be accepted if they are recorded on the School Personnel Health Record. Dates of results longer than three months of our receipt will not be accepted.

Selected candidates for IU20 positions will be required to produce state mandated background clearances and fraud checks as part of the employment onboarding process. All recommendations for hire shall be contingent upon receipt of acceptable clearances and fraud checks. The clearances and checks will be treated confidentially.
