What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Specialist I - Meters position at Collier County?
NEW EMPLOYEES ARE HIRED AT, OR NEAR THE ENTRY POINT SHOWN, DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE.
Perform unskilled and semi-skilled work functions associated with all aspects of system maintenance within the Public Utilities Department.
Assists with the maintenance of water distribution system and coordinates maintenance, repair, and installation of water service lines/mains; conducts excavation for new installations; locates and excavates existing service lines; taps water mains to provide water to customers; maintains mains and service lines, and repairs line breaks; replaces older/worn service lines with new upgraded service lines; replaces, repairs, or relocates air release valves; bores shafts and installs conduit or service sleeves across road where needed; restores roads, sidewalks, and other work sites to original condition after completion of work; and respond to customer calls for service.
Assists with valve maintenance activities; assists with vactor truck operations to clean valves; maintains and catalogs blueprints in blueprint room
High school diploma or GED* required.
Five (5) months of related experience preferred.
Fingerprinting required.
*General Educational Development (GEDs) must be issued by the American Council on Education through an approved GED Administrator. For Florida, the approved GED Administrator would be the Florida Department of Education (public schools or adult education centers).
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
• Must complete the Sacramento Water Distribution Operator correspondence course within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess Backflow Prevention Testing & Assembly certification within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess a valid Class 3 Water Distribution System Operator License within 18 months of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
Five (5) months of related experience preferred.

Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
