Description
The Job Coach supports students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving career, employment, and independent workplace success. The position provides individualized career planning, job development, workplace training, job coaching, and ongoing employment support to assist students in obtaining, maintaining, and advancing in competitive integrated employment.
The Job Coach collaborates with employers, faculty, staff, workforce partners, families, and community agencies to promote student success in academic, work-based learning, and employment settings. The position assists students in developing workplace readiness skills while supporting inclusive employment opportunities consistent with College goals and applicable federal and state requirements.
The Job Coach receives general supervision from the Director of Student Services.
Examples of Duties
- Provide individualized career assessment, vocational exploration, career planning, and employment goal development utilizing person-centered planning principles.
- Assist students in identifying career interests, strengths, abilities, and employment objectives.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local employers to identify internship, work-based learning, job shadowing, and competitive employment opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Division of Learning, Work-Based Learning, faculty, Accessibility Services, Educational and Intellectual Disabilities Program staff, and community agencies to support student success.
- Conduct job development activities and assist students with employment searches, applications, resumes, interviewing skills, and employment preparation.
- Provide individualized on-site and off-site job coaching, workplace training, and follow-along support to promote successful employment outcomes.
- Teach workplace readiness skills including communication, professionalism, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, self-advocacy, and appropriate workplace behavior.
- Monitor student progress in employment settings and collaborate with employers and College personnel to address barriers and support successful job retention.
- Consult with employers regarding effective supervision strategies, workplace expectations, and reasonable accommodations, when appropriate.
- Assist students with transition planning and support the development of skills necessary for increased independence and long-term employment success.
- Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and presentations related to career readiness, workplace expectations, and employment skills.
- Maintain confidential and accurate records, case notes, employment outcomes, and other required program documentation in accordance with College procedures.
- Collect and report employment outcome data and other program performance measures as required.
- Respond appropriately to student or workplace concerns and communicate with appropriate College personnel regarding issues affecting student employment success.
- Ensure compliance with College policies and procedures, FERPA, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), when applicable, grant requirements, and all applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a closely related field.
- 1 - 3 years of progressively responsible experience working with individuals with disabilities, workforce development programs, supported employment, career services, or a related field.
- Equivalent combinations of education and directly related experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing employment services or job coaching for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Experience collaborating with employers, workforce development organizations, or community rehabilitation programs.
- Experience working within higher education, vocational rehabilitation, or workforce development settings.
- Knowledge of supported employment practices and person-centered planning.

Working ConditionsWork is performed in office, classroom, community, and employer worksite environments. The position requires regular travel between College locations, employer sites, and community partner locations.Work may involve prolonged standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of materials weighing up to twenty (20) pounds. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support student activities, employer engagement, or College events.
