• Performs a variety of work in the construction, repair and maintenance of County facilities, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, insulation, locksmith, painting, mechanical, welding, concrete or other work.
• Investigates and diagnose problems in the field, make repairs or provide recommendations for possible solutions.
• Installs and modifies systems furniture.
• Operates and maintains a broad range of plumbing systems, including backflow devices, programmable irrigation systems, mixing valves, water heaters, fire suppression and fire monitoring equipment.
• Operates various tools and mechanical equipment.
• Performs inspection and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, buildings, and facilities.
• Makes material take-offs and purchases materials required.
• Keeps records of work performed and materials used.
Essential functions include but not limited to driving, standing, walking and bending; twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy loads up to 100 lbs; working with and around others; interruptions; repetitive motion (elbow/shoulder); vision acuity (near/far); hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity/touch. Environmental factors include most of the work is done outside; exposure to noise; use of mechanical devices; exposure to odors and dust.Two years general maintenance experience; OR, any combination of training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.
Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of facility maintenance, painting, light electrical, basic carpentry skills, ground maintenance and experience with modular office furniture.
The ideal candidate will be punctual, able to follow written and verbal instructions, and work independently with minimal supervision.
This position is safety sensitive.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
• Considerable knowledge of:
- The methods, practices, tools and materials used in a variety of building trades, maintenance and repair work
- Inspection and preventative maintenance practices applying to mechanical equipment
- Safe work practice and proper use of safety equipment
- Guidelines and work practices to protect against (and treat) exposure to biohazards
- Federal, state and local laws, codes, guidelines and rules governing functional area
- Reading and understanding MSDS labels
• Skill in:
- The operation of hand and power tools, and other assigned equipment under field conditions
- Use of computers
• Ability to:
- Diagnose problems and make repairs in the field on 24-hour basis
- Report to work in times of functional and County State declared emergencies
- Read and understand construction blueprints and sketches
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 60 pounds
- Safely work in confined spaces, on ladders, lifts and scaffolding
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis
- Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
- Follow written and verbal instructions
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
