Pay: $19.00–$22.00 per hour Mileage Reimbursement

Job Overview

Coastal Truck Driving School is seeking an experienced Class A CDL driver to join our team as a full-time Traveling CDL Instructor.

This position primarily supports our partnership with Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC). The majority of assignments will take place at partner locations in Slidell, Bogalusa, and Greensburg, with additional assignments at our Hammond campus as needed.

Instructors earn $22.00 per hour when working off-site and $19.00 per hour when assigned to Hammond. Authorized travel is reimbursed at $0.50 per mile.

We are looking for a dependable professional who can work independently, manage a classroom, maintain safety standards, and represent Coastal positively with students and partner organizations.

Previous instructor experience is not required. Training on our curriculum and procedures will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel CDL instruction.
• Teach vehicle inspections, backing maneuvers, safe driving practices, road skills, and applicable regulations.
• Prepare students for CDL testing and professional driving careers.
• Independently manage assigned classes while maintaining Coastal's instructional and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate attendance, training, progress, and student records.
• Evaluate student performance and provide additional coaching when necessary.
• Communicate student concerns, attendance issues, safety matters, and equipment problems to management.
• Maintain professional working relationships with NTCC personnel.
• Exercise sound judgment and remain professional when handling unexpected situations.

Qualifications

Required:

• Valid Class A CDL.
• Current DOT Medical Card.
• Minimum three years of over-the-road (OTR) Class A commercial driving experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel regularly.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Dependability, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
• Professional demeanor and sound judgment.

Preferred:

• Previous CDL instructor or driver-training experience.

Compensation & Travel

• $22.00/hour: Off-site instructional assignments.
• $19.00/hour: Hammond campus assignments.
• $0.50/mile: Authorized travel reimbursement.
• $50 daily per diem: When overnight travel is necessary, in accordance with company policy.

Most assignments will be off-site. Overnight travel is not normally required.
