We are looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our underground utility construction team in Ashland, Virginia.
This is not an entry-level position. Previous utility construction and equipment operating experience is required.
What You'll Do
- Operate mini excavators, skid steers, vibratory plows, and micro trenching equipment.
- Install underground conduit for fiber optic cable projects.
- Dig and backfill trenches while protecting existing utilities.
- Load and unload equipment safely.
- Read utility locate markings before excavation.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
- Work with laborers, foremen, and equipment operators to complete projects safely and on schedule.
- Restore jobsites to customer standards.
- Follow all OSHA, company, and customer safety requirements.
- Perform manual labor when equipment is not being operated.
- Minimum 3 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
- Minimum 3 years working in underground utility construction.
- Experience operating mini excavators and skid steers.
- Experience installing conduit for fiber optic, telecommunications, or other underground utility systems.
- Experience operating vibratory plows and/or micro trenching equipment is strongly preferred.
- Ability to identify underground utility locate markings.
- Ability to work safely around electric, gas, water, sewer, and communication utilities.
- Valid driver's license (CDL is a plus but not required).
- Ability to lift 75 pounds.
- Willingness to work overtime when needed.
- Reliable transportation.
