About the Role
Coalition Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee roaster based in Northern New Jersey, serving cafés, restaurants, hospitality groups, and wholesale partners across the region.
We are seeking a reliable and detail oriented Coffee Roaster to join our roasting team in Garfield, NJ. This is an in person production role for someone who understands consistency, quality control, cleanliness, and the importance of following roasting standards.
The ideal candidate has experience roasting coffee or working in a specialty coffee production environment. This person should be comfortable working with roasting equipment, tracking batches, maintaining quality, and helping support a clean and efficient roasting operation.
Responsibilities
- Roast coffee according to approved profiles and production needs
- Monitor roast consistency, timing, color, temperature, and batch quality
- Assist with green coffee handling, weighing, loading, and inventory organization
- Perform basic quality checks before, during, and after roasting
- Maintain accurate production records and roast logs
- Help with cupping, sample evaluation, and quality control when needed
- Keep roasting equipment, production areas, and workspaces clean and organized
- Follow food safety, workplace safety, and company procedures
- Communicate any equipment, quality, or production issues to management
- Support packing, labeling, and production flow when needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in coffee roasting, specialty coffee production, food production, or a similar hands on production role preferred
- Strong attention to detail and consistency
- Comfortable working in a physical production environment
- Able to lift bags, boxes, and production materials as needed
- Reliable, punctual, and organized
- Able to follow roast profiles, production instructions, and safety procedures
- Comfortable standing for extended periods during shifts
Strongly Preferred Experience
- Prior experience roasting specialty coffee
- Familiarity with green coffee, roast development, cupping, and quality control
- Experience using commercial roasting equipment
- Understanding of production schedules, batch tracking, and inventory procedures
- Experience in a café, roastery, or craft food and beverage environment
