What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Substation Engineer position at Coalesce Management Consulting?
We are supporting a major transmission utility on a critical project and are looking for a highly experienced Substation Physical Design Engineer to join on a long-term contract.
This is a remote opportunity with an initial onboarding period onsite to align with the team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading physical design for high-voltage substations (up to 500kV)
- Producing and reviewing detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and construction packages
- Supporting heavy civil, structural, and mechanical design aspects of substations
- Performing grounding design and lightning protection calculations
- Supporting design reviews, engineering studies, and material evaluations
- Contributing to design standards and best practices across projects
What we’re looking for:
- 10 years of substation physical design experience
- Strong experience with 500kV substations (breaker-and-a-half preferred)
- Heavy AutoCAD experience
- Background in civil, structural, and mechanical design within substations
- Experience with grounding and lightning protection design
- Ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers
- Engineering degree required (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical)
- PE preferred
Project Details:
- 12-month contract (high likelihood of extension)
