Job Summary:
Protection & Control (P&C) Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of critical systems used for detecting and responding to power system faults in substations. This role ensures the reliability and safety of the electrical grid.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Commissioning: Assisting with or leading the installation, wiring verification, checkout, and functional testing of new protection and control equipment and associated systems (SCADA, communication systems, etc.).
- Maintenance and Testing: Performing routine inspection, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, and functional tests on electromechanical and microprocessor-based protective relays, as well as associated control circuits, transformers, and switchgear.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Using schematic diagrams, blueprints, and specialized test equipment to troubleshoot and repair system protection and control equipment.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with company safety rules, operating regulations, and NERC/WECC compliance standards. This also involves preparing and maintaining accurate records, reports, and drawings.
- Operational Support: Performing switching operations under supervision and coordinating with various project stakeholders and system operators during maintenance and construction activities.
